William J. Burke, MD, is the Stead Family Memory Center director at Banner Alzheimer’s Institute and Research Professor of Psychiatry, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix, AZ.  

Dr. Burke received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska where he also completed an internship in Internal Medicine. He performed his residency in Psychiatry at Barnes Hospital and Washington University Medical School in St. Louis. He received additional post-graduate training at the Alzheimer Disease Research Center at Washington University while also studying psychiatric epidemiology. 

Dr. Burke is a board-certified geriatric psychiatrist and has extensive experience in clinical trials. His research interests include evaluation of potential new treatments for Alzheimer disease with a particular focus on prevention trials for persons at high genetic risk. He has published more than 200 scientific articles, book chapters and abstracts.

Dr. Burke has been repeatedly recognized as a Castle Connolly/U.S. News “Top Doctor” and named in “Best Doctors in America.”
